My Girl’s Cape in Zara Yarn

Posted on June 5, 2008 - Filed Under Cape, Crochet

Since we are staying in Bangkok soon, there’s a possibility of traveling to northern Thailand which is colder by the end of the year. I hope that we can make a trip to Chiang Mai and Nan (a place near Yunnan) this year, so I knitted a cape in Zara wool yarn for my little gal. For every 3 rows of the crochet pattern, I added a row of chain in Lily yarn. I have a lot of leftover yarns, so it’s best to make good use of them.

She doesn’t like it at first and refused to try it on. At that moment, I thought all my effort was wasted. But then, the lady from the knitting shop helped me to crochet these cute characters of Hello Kitty and Melody and they certainly beautify the cape. :)

Here’s the end result…

I think my girl will look really cute in it, if she’s willing to put it on!

MamaB and San, I don’t have pattern with me right now, but I guess you can easily find those cape patterns from Japanese crochet books, especially for babies. I got it from one of the baby books, but crochet a few more rows to fit my gal.

Hi, would it be possible to get the dimensions of this cape? that would be the neckline measurement around, the bottom hem measurement around, and the length from top to bottom. What child’s size would this cape be? It’s darling! I’d like to figure out how to make one on my own but don’t have a clue as to how to size it. Thanks in advance!

Hi Beth, this cape is for my gal, who’s about 80cm tall when I made the cape. You need to measure the size of the neck (wider than the neckline, of coz), and the length of the cape, probably at elbow level. If you find those fan out crochet pattern, like mine, it would be pretty flare to the end, so these are the 2 measurements needed to start the cape. :)
